The weekend of January 11 - 13, teams of four sportsmen joined Arizona Diamondbacks' Cy Young Winner Brandon Webb and his celebrity guests in Cabo San Lucas for the 1st Annual Celebrity Offshore Tournament - the ultimate offshore celerity angling experience.
On the morning of January 11th, Brandon Webb's K Foundation flew participants to beautiful Cabo San Lucas, Mexico via private aircraft. Upon arrival guests were transported via luxury motor coach to the award-winning Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Holistic Retreat where they spent three days and two nights.
That evening our guests were treated to a beachside cocktail reception with our celebrities that included Brandon, Arizona Cardinals Quarterback Kurt Warner, Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs, Basketball Hall of Famer Rick Barry and others. The cocktail reception was followed by a spectacular dinner featuring Pacifica's award-winning cuisine and live entertainment from an authentic mariachi band. During the dinner, Tournament Director Mike Olson detailed the format for the next day's Offshore Tournament were detailed.
On Saturday morning our guests gathered early for a breakfast on the portico overlooking the serene grounds of Pacifica. After a short trip to the marina, our guests departed on four luxury sports yachts for a day of competitive offshore angling. Each team was joined by one of our celebrities for what proved to be a day of incredible Marlin Fishing.
After compiling and computing the scores, the 2008 Celebrity Offshore Tournament was won by Team Webb comprised of Team Captain Brandon Webb, Randy Schock, Bill Lavidge, Bill Moore and Jeff Ginn with a total 12 Marlins. The Tournament's runner-up was the team captained by former Broncos' 6-time All-Pro Karl Mecklenburg with a total of 11 Marlins. All told, our four teams landed a total of 31 Marlins, as well as several Dorado and other game fish.
On Saturday evening our guests were hosted for a cocktail reception and dinner at the award-winning oceanfront estate of Pueblo Bonito Oceanfront Resorts & Spas President and Founder Mr. Ernesto Coppel.
After our guests were seated for dinner, our group was officially greeted by Pueblo Bonito Oceanfront Resorts' Executive Vice President Roberto Guzmán. He spoke about the philosophy behind the world-class service and warm hospitality of Pueblo Bonito's seven luxury resorts. Mr. Guzman explained how this philosophy guided them to develop Quivira Los Cabos - a master-planned luxury residential and resort community located on 1,850 acres in Los Cabos, Mexico (www.quiviraloscabos).
In addition to fabulous culinary treats from the chef's at Pueblo Bonito, our guests were treated to an amazing fire dancing performance. As dinner concluded, Mike Olson presented our first place team with the prize of $2,500, which was generously donated back to the K Foundation.
Following dinner, our guests were hosted for a VIP evening of live entertainment at Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina.
On Sunday morning, our guests were treated to Pacifica's legendary poolside brunch where tales of Saturday's fishing and nightlife were shared. Shortly after brunch our magical event came to an end as our guests checked out of our resort home and departed for the airport.
The Celebrity Offshore Tournament is the K Foundation's largest fundraiser and with your support we will continue our mission of improving the lives of critically and chronically ill children throughout Arizona by providing daily support and life changing experiences.
