Brandon Webb brings hope to families at University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona
On Wednesday, November 5th Brandon Webb's K Foundation launched its third "Brandon's Locker" at University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. The goal of "Brandon's Locker" is to provide the patients and their families with access to notebook computers, game systems and a number of other activities that can occupy their time in the hospital. "I picked University Medical Center because we do our spring training in Tucson and my wife and I felt that we could reach even more children by bringing this great program to UMC. These families go through so much and with the Locker and the activities that come with it, we feel like this is one thing that they can always rely on," says Webb.
With the support of the hospital staff and the Arizona Diamondbacks the room was filled with media and families that were anxious to see what "Brandon's Locker" would bring to the hospital. "It is hard to see these families go through this, but if we can put a smile on their face for that brief period of time, it is all worth it" explains Webb. The locker provides the kids with access to 20 notebooks computers, 10 playstation portable game systems and a wide range of games and movies for all ages.
After the Locker was unveiled Brandon went around to the rooms of the kids that were not able to make it and posed for pictures and signed autographs. The look on each and every child's face as Brandon entered the room was worth a thousand words and made the entire experience a truly memorable moment for not only the families and nurses but for the entire K Foundation team!
We would like to thank our partners at University Medical Center for their assistance in making this happen. "Brandon's Locker" at UMC will reach over 45,000 kids this year and we hope to expand that number even more in 2009!
