Fifth-Graders Receive Lunch with Brandon Webb at Outback Steakhouse!

On November 15th, Tiffany Nowacki's fifth-grade class did something they've never done before…they ate lunch with Brandon Webb.

The event took place at the Outback Steakhouse in Chandler and featured a tour of the restaurant, which included making the Outback's famous appetizer, Bloomin' Onions.

The group of fifteen boys and girls were from Sierra Vista School and the trip was a reward for their participation in the K Foundation's "K is for Knowledge" program. The program encourages fifth-graders throughout the Roosevelt School District to read. The goal of the "K is for Knowledge" program is to develop a habit of reading in youngsters.

The trip to Outback Steakhouse with Brandon was a reward for the class that had read the most hours from August through October. The winning group had logged more than 1,750 reading hours.

After their field trip, Ms. Nowacki asked her students how many of them had set a goal and achieved it. All of the children replied, "This is the first time."

The "K is for Knowledge" program continues through March and will culminate with the top five students from each school winning a trip to an Arizona Diamondbacks exhibition game at Chase Field.

The Foundation would like to extend a warm thank you to Mitch Holmquist and his Outback Steakhouse staff. The restaurant opened especially for the students and the children were allowed to order anything they wanted - courtesy of Outback Steakhouse.
