On December 3rd, the K Foundation started our goal of making a lasting impression on thousands of chronically and critically ill children when we launched "Brandon's Locker" at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. Brandon was joined by nearly 150 parents, children and members of the media for this momentous occasion.
The launch began with Brandon addressing the media and explaining why his heart goes out to ill children and why he wants to make an impact in their lives. "I want to put lockers at St. Joseph's so that the children will have fun items to help occupy their time while they are in the hospital," says Webb. "Helping ill children is something my wife and I feel strongly about. When you visit the hospital and see the kids, you want to do anything you can to help make their lives more enjoyable. We believe Brandon's Locker will do that."
Brandon thanked Sprint and their Regional Vice President Ed Aaronson for their partnership as the Locker's Presenting Sponsor.
Without hesitation, Brandon cut the ribbon on the Locker housed in the Children’s Rehabilitative Services Building and began passing out the toys and comfort items to the children in attendance.
The launch of Brandon's Locker brought to fruition a plan that has been more than twelve months in the making. Brandon's Locker has been created to enrich the lives of ill children by providing them with toys and comfort items such as books, stuffed animals and blankets.
One Locker has been placed in St. Joseph's Children's Rehabilitative Services Building where children with chronic and potentially chronic illnesses receive ongoing care. The second Locker was placed in the hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, which cares for little ones with critical illnesses or injuries. The toys, blankets, books and bears that will be placed in the lockers will be given to patients in need of comfort, and the Lockers will be continually refilled by K Foundation throughout the year.
"We are thrilled and honored to receive this gift and ongoing support from Brandon Webb," says Linda Hunt, president of St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. "As the second largest provider of pediatric services in the state, we care for thousands of children each year. A gift that comes from a role model such as Brandon will lift the spirits of our patients, remind them that they are special, and ease their hospital stay."
Over the next year, more than 30,000 children will benefit from the two Lockers at St. Joseph's.
